Control Dosimeter

Control dosimeter – A dosimeter that measures the background radiation accumulated during the transit and storage of personnel dosimeters. A separate control dosimeter is included with each shipment. Control dosimeters are also included in non-routine badge shipments. It is important that the correct control is returned with the appropriate shipment. After returned dosimeters have been processed, the control dosimeter exposure is subtracted from each individual dosimeter in the shipment to separate the occupational dose from the background exposure.  In this way the net dose dose due to occupational radiation exposure an individual who wore the dosimeter received can be calculated
